How would you differentiate between “exercise” and “physical activity”? - Exercise (or is it physical activity? – is there a difference?) o Physical activity usually refers to any activity that requires movement and includes “activities of daily living” o Exercise usually refers to “planned” or “intentional” activities that are designed to expend energy and enhance your fitness or your health or your appearance - It might seem trivial but there is a lot of controversy about whether physical activity = exercise in terms of benefits to “health” o In the past 10 years, there has been a lot less emphasis on “exercise” and more emphasis on getting the average person to become physically active - A big part of the controversy involves whether the activity increases “fitness” o What is fitness? o Strength? o
