Introduction This paper will outline and explain Iron Mountain Incorporation’s current financial state through a financial analysis of its overall production throughout the past five years. Included in the paper will be a detailed description of the establishment of Iron Mountain Incorporation, as well as its product/service line. Along with the stated fundamentals of the company, there will also be a thorough analysis of the industry history, which includes Iron Mountain Inc.’s major competitors and NACIS numbers and description of the industry. Theme Iron Mountain Incorporated’s ongoing financial state seems to be dramatically increasing from year to year. This increase is noticeable when looking at the company’s sales. Iron Mountain’s sales have been increasing every year for the past five years. This paper is going to outline the progression of the company over the past five years to illustrate the continuing productivity and growth of the company. It is very critical to show the positive growth and trends of the company through a financial analysis in order to be able to better forecast the productivity of the company for the upcoming end of fiscal year 2010 and for years to come. History of the Company Iron Mountain Incorporated was established in 1951. However, the beginning of the company dates back much earlier. In 1936, Herman Knaust bought an old iron ore mine and 100 acres of land in order to help pave his way into the mushroom farming business (“Iron Mountain’s History,” n.d., p. 1) 1 . business and begin a new chapter in his life (“Iron Mountain’s History,” n.d., p. 1) 2 . Herman Knaust decided to put his old iron ore mine to good use and turned it into an industrial phenomenon. In 1951, Herman Knaust renamed his company Iron Mountain and began his new business endeavor. At that time, many Jewish immigrants from overseas had lost their identities, as well as other important documents, due to World War II. Therefore, Knaust decided that he wanted to establish an organization that would protect others’ vital and confidential information from wars and other disasters (“Iron Mountain History,” n.d., p. 1) 3 . Mr. Knaust placed vaults in his old iron mine, where he would keep the documents, and put an office in the Empire State Building in New York City to manage the company’s sales (“Iron Mountain History,” n.d., p. 2)
