Name the 5 characteristics of civilization. Look in the supplementary notes. Know the exact dates of the Neolithic/Agricultural Revolution. What led to the rise of farming? How does a sedentary agricultural lifestyle differ from the hunting and gathering lifestyle? What are the advantages and disadvantages of both? Women’s social status – in classical, civilized societies, versus hunting and gathering societies? Sumerians, Akkadians, Assyrians, Babylonians – major achievements, characteristics; which came first? Look in class notes and supplementary notes. Who was Argon I? Which group was the first to unite all of Mesopotamia What was Hammurabi’s Code and what was its significance? Egypt – look at supplementary notes, class notes, reading: Narmer I, when? When did the decline of Egyptian society start? What were Egyptian views/rituals concerning death, afterlife? Who were the Phoenicians? Significance? Where did they settle? Alphabet? Indo-Europeans?
