We all select and perform behaviors unconsciously, either its out of habit or through repetition. Nevertheless, they serve some purpose. In some cases, attracting negative attention can be served as inappropriate behaviors. “Attention is a powerful reinforcer that all human strive to obtain”, either it’s the clothes we wear, cars we drive, or certainly through misbehavior. (J. Maag, 1998) However, children face more consequences of constantly seeking attention, especially negative attention. “A child often prefers negative attention to no attention at all.” (J. Maag, 1998). Functional assessment is implemented when punishment doesn’t work, and to also understand the reason for child’s inappropriate behavior. Function Behavioral assessment’s goal is to alter the environment to promote children’s appropriate behavior, and to teach them more adaptive and acceptable ways to get what they want. Functional assessment answers the question of why a child behaves a certain way, and determine the purpose or function of
