I feel that I relate to the philosophy of Arthur Schopenhauer. Schopenhauer believed in experiencing of the world is constantly mediated through human will, which, in order to attain real knowledge, must be put down and get rid of. Schopenhauer's thought is that he considers the sensual world to be illusion, but nobody has been able to prove that he knew Buddhism before he wrote "The World as Will and Idea".

Unformatted text preview: In my world religions class I studied Buddhism, and find the religion to be very stimulating to the mind; Buddhists’ are in a eternal quest to reach nirvana, and believe in human will as I do. Many say my beliefs are depressing but I have to disagree. Schopenhauer doesn't believe in the ability of the senses to bring knowledge. Experience must be unmediated by the will for it to be "real"....
