Mary Wollstonecraft published a document called “A Vindification of the Rights of Women” in 1792, a long time before the suffragette movement. In her document she advocated the social and moral equality of both men and women. Wollencraft’s ideas were thought to have shaped the suffragette women who campaigned for the vote for women in the 1900’s. Simone de Beauvoir was known as a philosophical crusader.
