C HEMISTRY 101L R EPORT T EMPLATE EXPT. Density of Nonane 3 Introduction The purpose of this report is to determine the effects of temperature on the density of nonane. The objective of the experiment was to measure the volume of nonane at various temperatures. Materials and Methods The procedure for this experiment was taken from CHEM 101L Lab Manual; the only difference was using the same 400mL beaker and water used in calibrating the Temperature sensor for DataStudio for heating up the nonane as well. Otherwise, the procedure is pretty much the same as laid out in the manual. Materials: 400 mL beaker Immersion Heater Alcohol Thermometer Micro stir bar 3 – prong clamp (x2) Buret segment Stir plate Water Electronic balance Tongs/Hot Hands Temperature sensor DataStudio software Calculations used in Experiment 1) Calculating the mass of a liquid in a container with a measured mass: (m c – mass of container, m l & c – mass of liquid and container, m l – mass of liquid). m
