Goldman's Basic Position To define what exactly is at issue (what is sex in the first place?) To define sex as minimalistically as possible. To argue that other definitions of sex fail. To say that sex so defined carries (in and of itself) NO moral implications. To argue that sexual ethics is just an application of more general ethical principles. - i.e., sex is not a special moral domain.

What Sex Is Is the definition too broad?-Might think it includes all kinds of activities where physical contact is desired (e.g., football, wrestling) The desire in these activities is not for physical contact in itself, but to (e.g.) win. -Baby's desire to cuddle Not a fully formed desire for contact for a specific person's body. Is the definition too narrow?-One's mental constitution may be what is sexually attractive (flirting) But if one is sexually attracted, one will want more. This is a prelude to “elemental sex”...
