STRUCTURE OF POSITION PAPER Introduction – contains the following: Background to the problem, i.e. why it is a problem (particularly in relation to the objectives of the SO-MOST Taskforce and this assignment) and how the problem was identified (you can use some research data here). Causes of the problem Current responses (these can be from government or any other group, e.g. private companies, grassroots organizations, NGOs) Recommendations – provides arguments for each of the recommendations your team wishes to make. Each recommendation should have its own sub-heading. Reference should be made to material gathered by secondary research (fuller details of which can be provided in the appendices). Conclusion – restates the urgency of the problem and why the recommendations are necessary to tackle it. References – lists all the secondary sources of information referred to in your paper. These should be formatted in APA style (see ‘dummy’ paper). Appendices – these would likely include a sample of the questionnaire used by your group and consolidation of your data in graphical form. N. B. The words in the appendices do not count towards the overall total for the paper.
