Reactions), motor proteins (movement), peptide hormones (coordinate activities of cells), receptor proteins (receive signal and initiate response), structural proteins (support for cells and tissues) and transport proteins-ex. hemoglobin (move substances across cell membrane) Enzymes Metabolism: sum of all reactions that occur in the body Catabolic reactions : exergonic (releasing energy) o Tend to occur spontaneously but must overcome Energy of Activation (energy to begin a reaction) o Release energy (high E (energy) in reactants) o Ex. Polymers break into monomers Anabolic reactions : Endergonic (absorbing energy) o Do not occur spontaneously o Need input of energy to occur (higher E (energy) in products) o Ex. Making polymers from monomers Activation Energy o Energy needed for reactions to o Have effective collisions
