January 28, 2011 Oxidative Phos. = Making ATP by way of a series of oxidation-reduction reactions Substrate –Level Phosphorylations: Glycolysis-2 ATP Autotrophs: make their own food, primary producers Photo-Autotroph: uses photosynthesis to make food Exergonic (oxidizing glucose) = cell respiration Endergonic = photosynthesis Mesophyll cells have round organelles called chloroplast Chloroplast has double membrane Inside there are connected stacks of thylakoids Space inside chloroplast called a stroma All different membranes for surface area for proteins to attach to, to make ATP Photosynthesis -need light Splits H2O Reduces NADP ATP synthesis (proton pump) Synthesis- (Calvin Cycle-light independent) o Uses ATP and NADPH to reduce CO2 Longer wavelengths of light are less energetic then shorter wavelengths Chlorophyll transmits green light Different pigments absorb different wavelengths of light o Chlorophylls absorb blue and red light and transmit green light
