COURSE INFORMATION – BIOLOGY 101 Winter 2011 Lecture: 8-9:05 M,W,F in Olin 115 Instructor: Barbara Ann Pytel Phone: X-6746 e-mail: pytelb@union.edu Office: Science and Engineering S306 Office hours: Thursday 9-11 or by appointment Textbooks: Biological Science, 4th edition . Scott Freeman Bio 101 laboratory exercises are compiled in a Laboratory Manual available in the campus bookstore. This course contains a lot of material and the pace may seem quite intense especially in a ten week format. It is important to pay close attention to lectures. ASK QUESTIONS if you don’t understand or if something requires clarification. Perhaps most importantly, read your textbook and lecture notes every day. Don’t forget to consult the quizzes on the CD and the online resources available through the publisher. These will be helpful in studying for tests. Some of the lecture material will be available as powerpoint documents on Blackboard. Many students find it helpful to make hard copies of the lecture figures and bring them to class. Doing well in this course requires a lot of self-discipline and you may be tempted to skip some pages in the text but you really need to understand everything we’ve covered in class.
