Michelle Sanjuan White Collar Crime Page 1 of 3 The white collar criminal I will be speaking of is Leona Helmsley who is known as the “Queen of Mean” and is also known as one of the top ten white collar criminals because of federal income tax evasion. Leona was married to Harry Helmsley, a multi-millionaire real estate investor with who she built a “real estate empire” in New York City. She earned the title of the “Queen of Mean” from her demands towards her employees, which she explained was because she wanted nothing but the best for her customers. Any mistake was reason enough for grounds of firing and she did not mind to throw insults and scream at the employees, either when working or when getting fired. In 1983 the Helmsley’s bought a 21 room mansion in Connecticut worth $11 million dollars. They decided to upgrade the house and make it more “luxurious” than it had been before, totaling an extra $8 million dollars spent on the home (Rachael Bell). This money was counting the costs for the home, not paying the
