----all these 3 groups, the walds, loll, huss’s were told to not to do something, but they continued to do what they believed in….this is what made them dangerous a)Waldensians -named after peter valdes, who preached ideas of salvation, of life. Used poverty to basically criticize the roman catholic church, starts in the early 12 th century. -Peter Valdes-he looked at the splendor that clerics were living in, and said that this doesn’t match the teachings of the priests idea that when they become priests, they should give up the worldly possessions of the king. Only priests should read the bible -the scriptures are allegorical, people have different interpretations, so they were put under some certain peoples ideas. They killed heretics at the stake. If you put them in the ground, the heresy from their body still can spread, if you burn them, their heresy goes away. Valdez is an early heretic, his ideas are the same ideas as luther, henry VIII, this idea that they needed to get back to the teachings of Christ, to ad fonts Christianity, go back to primary. b)Lollards (England)9.15.9 -John Wycliffe, 1324-1384- come under this guy, lolls, and this was during the black plague, they argued that the church had gotten corrupted the holy sacrament, baptism, marriage, holy communion, that were at the core of the religious practice, what they wanted to do was to reform them to a form of the New testaments teaching of the Bible.
