It threatens the social order, the established social/societal order by the church. It was said that the universe or the planets would be around the motionless earth. Another way to think about this would be:-Why would people not want to accept Galileo's findings? They didn’t accept his findings because they were fan’s of aristotles ideas, pg, 29? He wanted to disprove Aristotles ideas, by making his telescope even stronger, He saw jagged features of the moon, which made him disprove aristotles idea that all celestial bodies were perfect spheres.
