While Equiano acquired many European characteristics such as hair-dressing, sea navigating, reading, writing, to speak English, to purify water, and joining the army, he still self-identified as African because of the way he described Africans and himself throughout his novel, and the way he is treated throughout the book This is evident in the way he describes Africans throughout the novel, the treatment he receives The 1 st part where you mention Christianity, you don’t have to overkill it, just acknowledge that he was Christian, and say that just because he was doesn’t make him European.
