Half of the essay should discuss your overall perception of the poet based on the selection of poems read and half of the essay should focus on one specific poem by providing a line by line analysis. Each essay is worth five points. Due Dates: Poetry Essay 1: Randall Jarrell, Due 9/17 Poetry Essay 2: Gwendolyn Brooks, Due 10/11 Poetry Essay 3: Amiri Baraka, Due 10/15 Poetry Essay 4: Yusef Komunyakaa, Due 11/08 Poetry Essay 5: Matthew Zapruder, Due 11/29 ___________________________________________________________________________ NOVEL ESSAYSFor each novel you will be required to write one essay of at least 2000 words. These essays should have a thesis argument and focus on a specific aspect of the novel while also demonstrating your knowledge of the entirenovel. No outside research is required for these essays, but if it is helpful to your thesis (for example, you may wish to conduct some historical research) then you may use legitimate outside sources. But be sure to cite your source!
