RESULTS AND DISCUSSION2Proposal Paper: Results and DiscussionSimulated Research Study #1This design is measuring interval data with a hypothesis of difference; the null hypothesisstates H0: MSCEIT scores for substance abusers = MSCEIT scores for non-substance abusers. With this sample being independent and only two measures, using a single sample t-Test is the correct data analysis method, as chosen by the researcher (Knight, n.d.). The results concluded that p< .005, which means the null can be rejected and the results are significantly significant. This information quantifies substance abusers’ emotional understanding, showing there is a statistically lower difference for the tested population against the general public’s emotional intelligence. This research is important for the field of counseling because it allows those clinicians dealing with substance abusers to understand this weak area that may need special attention when counseling these clients and research this further.
