To understand the various methods used to study the mind in cognitive psychology. (4.) To understand the mind-as-computer metaphors . Notes : I. Cognitive psychology and other sciences – 2 important background perspectives: Cognitive science - interdisciplinary field which includes psychology, computer science, neuroscience, linguistics, philosophy, anthropology; each area studies part of human mind o Michael Posner (1989) – Edited a book called Foundations of Cognitive Science Levels of analysis – As you move up the scale, things studied get larger, more abstract, more complex, and have smaller sample sizes. o Social psychology, anthropology, economics o Cognitive psychology o Cognitive neuroscience o Neuroscience o Bio-Chemistry o Chemistry o Particle physics
