Text Messaging for Health What is text messaging for health? Text messaging for health is a form of medical intervention that utilizes text messages as the medium of treatment 1,2,3 . Text messaging for health is different than, say, an Email or telephone- call method of intervention in that it employs patients' mobile phones and the texting functions of those phones, respectively. That is, any forms of vocal or internet-based interventions are not text messaging for health - although these other methods may be used in conjunction 1,2 . Text messaging for health has been the subject of recent clinical research, as interest in text messaging as a viable and efficient means of communication has heightened increasingly over the past decade 1-3 . Text messaging has been shown to be potentially effective as an interventional medium 1-3 and to also have a high patient approval 2,3 . What are the Benefits of Texting for Patients and Providers?
