Quick Guide to In-text Citations and Works Cited ENGL 278—Sitar POETRY Quotations of three lines long or fewer from a poem: Eliot begins the poem with a vibrant but unusual image of a diseased sunset: “Let us go then, you and I, / When the evening is spread out against the sky / Like a patient etherised upon a table” (Eliot 343). Quotations of four lines long or greater (the block quotation) from a poem: Whitman opens the poem with a series of descriptions of the astronomer’s lecture, using “when” to connect all of these phrases and build up to a profound moment: When I heard the learn’d astronomer; When the proofs, the figures, were ranged in columns before me; When I was shown the charts and the diagrams, to add, divide, and measure them; When I, sitting, heard the astronomer, where he lectured with much applause in the lecture-room, How soon, unaccountable, I became tired and sick (Whitman 145) One can experience the speaker’s boredom firsthand at hearing the lecturer’s uninteresting presentation of facts and numbers, and the perhaps sarcastic use of “unaccountable” (Whitman 145).

As a current student on this bumpy collegiate pathway, I stumbled upon Course Hero, where I can find study resources for nearly all my courses, get online help from tutors 24/7, and even share my old projects, papers, and lecture notes with other students.

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
