April 6, 2010 Courts that were created prior to the international criminal court The creation of the Nuremburg and the Tokyo tribunals . These were set up by the victorious allied powers. State sovereignty could no longer be used as a shield. Un general assembly principles have become apart of the international legal framework as it pertains to human rights violations. The UN Security council set up two ad-hoc tribunals. The international criminal tribunal is located in the hague, today. The international criminal tribunal for Rwanda is located in Tanzania. – 49 in individuals have been sentenced. ^ none of the courts hand out the death penalty Both of these tribunals were given jurisdiction to try war crimes against humanity and genocide. Slobodan Milosevic – gave very long speeches, essentially did not recognize the authority of the court Rafo nadige Icc for Rwanda – sentenced 3 individuals for running hate media Rape is also considered a form of crimes against humanity In 1998 – a conference was convened in rome.
