Sociology 150 Midterm Study Questions Michael Messner Spring, 2007 The midterm examination will be held during regular class time, on Monday, October 13 . Arrive to class a few minutes early with a blank blue book and a pen. The midterm will be worth 100 points (25% of your total course grade). The exam will consist of a combination of essay questions (taken from the three below), and short answer questions (taken from the attached list) that will require you to briefly define key concepts, and give an example of the concept from the assigned readings or lectures. 1. In Going Wild, Jan Dizard describes a public debate over how to respond to an overpopulation of deer in the Quabbin. Drawing from the book, film and lectures, describe the historical trajectory of the different philosophies of nature that underlie the debate between the MDC and the Critics. Trace the claims-making and strategies employed by the two different groups in light of their different philosophies and interests. Using examples from the book, critically examine the strains in each
