Professional Development Fundamentals of Engineering Exam The Mechanical Engineering Department recommends that students consider taking the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam before graduation. This exam is the first step toward licensure, which requires both an FE exam and then, after several years of progressively responsible engineering experience, the Professional Engineering (PE) exam.
