Negotiating the Tattoo! - It usually starts with a person wanting to enter into this type of world. Sometimes it’s a personal curiosity and other times its because they come in contact with someone who has a tattoo. - Tattoos no longer have quite the same stigma attached to them. Deviants, delinquents, criminals, low-lifes, military personnel, etc.

The ‘”trends” of tattoos - Tattoos have become almost trendy to get. A social status in its own right. Tattoo have become more 3- dimensional in design, more colorful, more tasteful (according to society). - Therefore the individual deciding to get a tattoo, negotiates what type of tattoo will allow them to balance life between the deviant group in society and the legitimate ones.

Societys influence on the Tattoo-A tattoo often represents an individuals desire to be deviant, but still maintain the ability to conform to mainstream society.-Is this society perpetuating this definition or the individuals who get tattoos?-What is the cooperation? Negotiating Cooperation There is another element to the process, the Tattoo Artist!-The vision of the tattoo what the customer wants versus what the artist sees-The critique the realities of the tattoo. And the decision is?? This brings up the questions: - Are the tattoo artists the gatekeepers of the society? -Or are the different customers (celebs, wealthy, college students) dictating the direction of the tattoo alternative lifestyle?- Or does societys definition supersede everything?...
