Ronald Scrimo SPC 1600 WED 7:00-9:40PM December 8 th , 2010 Communicator Self-Appraisal The problem with communication is the illusion that it has occurred (George Bernard Shaw). I enrolled in this class with the intention that I already possessed excellent communication skills. However, I have since exposed my flaw in thought of communication. It is more than just the act of expressing desires and speaking a language amongst social groups. Communication has a deeper dynamic to it that involves listening, delivery, building rapport, content, and credibility, to name a few aspects. Becoming self aware of my listening habits has been my greatest achievement this semester. Sadly, over the years, I have inadvertently become very skilled at pretending to listen to people, but acknowledging I don’t listen well has been the first step to becoming a better listener. I have also learned a great deal of information when it comes to my delivery in speaking to others. I took an active look at my professor’s deliveries to improve my own delivery. In one class, the
