 3/2/11 Publics ± What is a public? ± “A group of people who share a common interest and are  affected by the same problem or issue, and behave  similarly toward a problem.”  ± “Problems, therefore, define publics more than publics  define problems”  ± Where have you seen publics spring up in politics, pop culture, the  media, etc.?

 3/2/11 Publics and Relationships ± The quality of an organization’s relationships with its  publics has been seen as a measure of the public  relations function’s success.  ± Organization-Public Relationships (OPRs) arise “when  organizations and their strategic publics are  interdependent and this interdependence results in  consequence to each other that organizations need to  manage constantly”  (Hung, 2005, p. 396)
