Today’s research more interested in how and why cultural artifacts are produced (like tv shows, and books). Then research how it fairs in the marketplace and why it did well or didn’t do well. -Researchers examine Market Structures and say why the tv show succeeded or failed or why the video game succeeded or failed. -They also explore the dynamics of industrial organizations. Content of Cultural Artifacts -Content Based Research: these researchers are more interested in studying the actual cultural artifact and what its’ deeper meanings and implications are. (our prof is one!!!!) -Textuality (this idea frames and forms all Content Based Research) -artifcats are imbued with meanings that are capable of being interpreted. We are in era of growing legitimacy of studying pop culture, and growing liberation of a wide variety of types of artifacts (so no long just studying newspapers, but some things you wouldn’t even think of as a Cultural Artifact) Anthropology- wrote down version of orally transmitted tales.
