a) Problem Statement : The temperature of the two bar assembly shown in the figure is raised by ΔT. At room temperature a gap, , exists between the two bars, where is constant. The key components to solving this problem relate to the strains, stresses, and deformations, With the given variables, equations are to be derived to find stresses, strains, deformations in each bar as well as and the gap between the two bars.

The above figure represents 2 bars which are fixed at each end. The bars have different modulus’s of elasticity as well ass different areas. The lengths of the two bars are equal and are separated by length S.
