American Women of Today 2 The last few generations of women are not settling to be only a house wife. American women of today are more career driven then pervious generations. This is shown by the increased enrollment rates into college for women, the jobs they hold and are applying for. Women of today are fulfilling all aspects of their lives. Women’s lives started to change due to World War II. (Gianoulis) When the men were called to war, the women were called to work outside of their homes. This forced women to provide for their families financially. By this it caused women to become more independent. But when the war ended the women did not want to give up their new claimed opportunities and independence. Women liked making more money then they had ever before and working outside of their homes. These women realized that they could maintain their home and work too, this starting more women to want to work outside of the home. Even though many women enjoyed working at home and taking care of their families, they also enjoyed the taste of independence they had experienced. However when the men came home from WWII many women were forced out of the workplace so the men could have their jobs back. (Gianoulis)
