Marking scheme for RC time constant ( PHYS 1004 w10) Maximal deductions (NB this is a FORMAL REPORT) (regular deductions apply, tables, diagrams numbered, units, 1 sig. fig. in errors e.t.c. ) All errors are given on WebCT Check that Apparatus is complete ( DMM, clock, capacitor boards ( errors are +/- 2 μ F ), DPDT , power supply ) - 10 if Apparatus section missing - 5 for each circuit missing ( 4 - simple RC, charging and discharging, capacitors in parallel and series ) 1. Charging cycle. ( no errors needed in this part ) - 3 if current values not from 10 μ A to 1 μ A ( from 4 to 1 in 0.5 μ A) - 5 if graph missing , error bars ( no max or min slope needed) - 5 if slope missing or wrong (e.g. if ln of currents is not taken ) ( no need for error on slope) -5 if R and C missing - 20 if whole section missing 2. Discharging cycle. ( errors needed in this part ) - 3 if current values not from 10 μ A to 1 μ A ( from 4 to 1 in 0.5 μ A) - 5 if graph and error bars missing - 5 if slope and
