Core Assessment2AbstractThe Federal Bureau of Investigation is the principalinvestigative agency of the federal government of the United States. The FBI is a member of the United States Department of Justice and reports to the United States Attorney General. There are various job divisions in the FBI, for this research paper, the focus will be on special agents. Special agents are a vital part of the bureau and are responsible for most of the field work. This research report will analyze the requirements for becoming a field agent along with salary, special requirements and personal opinions of the job itself from current and former FBI special agents.
Core Assessment3IntroductionThe Federal Bureau of investigation is a well-known law enforcement and intelligence agency. They are the main investigative agency of the federal government and are a part of the department of justice (FBI.GOV). The overall mission of the FBI is to uphold the law through the investigation of violations of federal criminal statutes; to protect the United States from hostile intelligence efforts; to provide assistance to other federal, state, and local law enforcement agencies; and to perform these responsibilities in a manner that is faithful to the Constitution and laws of the United States (FBI.GOV). This mission is further divided into five functional areas: Criminal Law Enforcement; Foreign Counterintelligence; Investigative and Operational Support; Law Enforcement Services; and Direction, Control, and Administration (FBI.GOV). Special agents are a vital part of the bureau and carry out an important role. They serve as the backbone of the bureau and are responsible for most of the field work done. They carry out many various roles in their given position. An analysis of personal experiences from former and current special agents will be conducted along with the salaries and the application process of becoming a special agent for the FBI. MethodologyIn person interviews from current and former agents were not conducted for the research in this report but thorough online research was conducted to analyze the perspectives of the special agents. I was unable to perform in person or telephone calls to obtain information for various reasons. One of the first reasons is that I do not personally know anyone who currently works for the FBI or anyone who has previously worked for them as well. The phone number forthe FBI’s website does not allow for personal information to be given from any of their agents in any way shape or form. The phone number serves as more of a directory for navigating the

The only form of email contact was to inquire about job positions or to leave tips that could help with the investigation of a wanted fugitive.
