Part 2: Business Process Documentation and Analvsis Introduction In Part 2 of the project, our goal was gain a general understanding of the company we choose to examine; including its history, organization composition, revenues, overall mission and objectives, as well as its current status and challenges. More specifically, we also wanted to acquire a specific insight in their cash receipts process. In order to achieve these goals, we planned a formal visit to the Danforth to conduct an interview with key employees. In addition, we conducted research on our own before the interview in order to be familiar with the organization to ensure we asked the right questions to the right people. The findings we made are presented below. Section 2.1: Companv Description The Danforth Museum of Art is a small, non-profit museum located in downtown Framingham in the Metro west region outside Boston, MA. Focusing on the visual arts, Danforth specializes in educating the general public on American-inspired art from the 18th century to the present day (Company Website). Danforth began operations back in 1975 through the efforts of local citizens who were and still are passionate for the arts and committed to its exposure and education to the general public (Company Website). Since that time, Danforth has occupied an,historical building in downtown Framingham. Once a school, the building dates back to the $dinning of the 20th century (Interview). Danforth however does not own this property, b.ut leases it from the owner of the property, the town of Framingham. Throughout its 35-year history, Danforth has evolved within the art world. More specifically, Danforth has consistently expanded and improved upon its educational services and the exhibits it displays at the museum. The organization currently has 9 full time employees, as well as 35 instructors (who work on average, 10 hours a week) (Interview). Revenues (including donations) were $1 million for fiscal2010 (Interview). The organization's mission statement is, The Danforth Museum of Art is dedicated to the celebration and creation of art. Established inI975, the Museum is a non-profit, privately supported, public art museum whose primary pu{pose is to provide education in the visual arts for MetroWest through its collection of Ameri can art, exhibitions, Museum School and outreach programs in the community. Source: Company Website As it can been seen, the organization's goals are not based on obtaining profits.
