Management Page#1 MANAGEMENT INTRODUCTION: This research paper is an attempt to identify and select which country among Taiwan and South Korea is a better opportunity for transfer in an American multinational subsidiary. It is conducted on the basis of comparative cultural, social and personal analyses. BRIEF OVERVIEW OF ECONOMIES: South Korea and Taiwan are among four Asian tigers and newly developed states. Taiwanese major focus is on manufacturing industry and is in a gradual process of shift towards technical and research oriented industries with minimum governmental intervention whereas South Korea is a 14 th largest growing economy having their root deep into high-tech technical and auto mobile industry with maximum privileges given from government. INTRODUCTION OF THE COMPANY: Intel Corporation is among top IT companies and largest chip maker in the world having its offices around the globe including Taiwan and South Korea. Hard work, innovation, charitable giving, investment in human resource management and socially responsible activities coupled with community development efforts are the traditional trademarks of Intel Corporation. Intel has two sales offices in Taiwan. They are at Taipi and Kaoushiung cities. In South Korea Intel is having a research and development facility at Seongnam and two sales offices at Seoul and Gumi. SITUATIONAL ANALYSES: Being an IT professional and having experience of working in multinationals like Dell and Apple I had experience of working in multicultural environments but for selection of my country of preference I would like to conduct comparative analyses of following factors in Taiwan and South Korea.

Management Page#2 CULTURAL DISTANCE: “Ancestry and culture are the ideological terms in which ethnic and national identities are claimed.” ( Melissa J. Brown, pg 2) On brief analyses of Korean and Taiwanese Culture it becomes enlightened that both the countries have high influence of Chinese traditions and Confucius philosophy But difference in environmental, social and political conditions. Chinese culture is entirely different than western culture. Their traditions, norms and ethnic background have unavoidable effect in personal and professional lives. Confucianism is the basis of their personal and professional lives that includes but not limited to creating a long term relationship rather than just having a deal. Elders and seniors are highly respected and attaining a level of harmony with other state of mind is crucial for success in business life. BUSINESS ETHICS AND WORK LIFE: Business ethics and work life in Taiwan and South Korea are quite different from American Life style. The focus of Taiwanese and Korean business culture is on four basic elements. They are as follows. Strong interpersonal relationships
