DEWA’s Streamlined Project Management Processes3AbstractDubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) delivers topnotch services of electricity andwater that meet the highest standards of reliability, efficiency, and most of all availability. Thispaper will discuss how DEWA was able to increase the efficiencies and the company’s value byusing streamlined project management processes.DEWA has experience extraordinary growthover the past two decades which added complexity to tasks that are already discouraging.Thecompany needed a way to keep pace with the ever so increasing growth and to be able to provideservice to a region with a population of over 2 million.DEWA’s leadership quickly learned thatthe standard project management practices weren’t being performed across the organizationwhich lead to decreased efficiencies, redundant data, hardened innovation, and increasedadministrative tasks that puts stress on the employees.The results of streamlining projectmanagement processes at DEWA led to increasing efficiency, reducing risks, enhancinginnovations, cutting cost, and improving productivity.DEWA’s commitment is to provide arobust and sustainable infrastructure for the production, distribution, and transmission ofelectricity and water in Dubai.
DEWA’s Streamlined Project Management Processes4Company BackgroundIn January 1, 1992, Dubai Electricity and Water Authority was founded by SheikhMaktoum bin Rashid Al Maktoum.The company arose between a merger of the Dubai ElectricCompany and the Dubai Water Department, which both companies were operatingindependently.DEWA is a public service infrastructure company and its main objective was tomake electricity and water services available to the people of Dubai.By the end of 2017, therewere about 11,000 employees working at DEWA and they were providing services to about796,000 customers.Currently, DEWA serves over 800,000 customers across Dubai which is aflourishing global city which is considered a leading hub of business activity in the Middle Eastand Northern Africa regions.According to the Happiness Index in the large Dubai government entities category in2018, DEWA has maintained its top position for the second year in a row with a 95% happinesslevel.This metric was obtained by the Smart Dubai’s Happiness Index that observes happinesslevels amongst the people in Dubai.
