Diagnosing personality Disorders - according to the DSm-IV-TR: enduring pattern of inner experience and behavior that deviates from person ʼ s culture in two or more of the following areas: cognition, affect, interpersonal, functioning, or impulse control - relatively inFexible and pervasive across personal and social situations - signi±cant distress or impairment in social, occupational or other areas of functioning - pattern is stable and long-term and can be traced to early childhood or adolescence - not accounted for by another medical condition (Note: big changes may occur in DSM V) - culture, ethnicity and gender affect diagnosis - under axis II ind DSN-IV-tr - chronic, developmental, and relatively inFexible - can coexist with other disorders in Axis I
