Physical Geology Project - Final Nicola Hodges Photo 1: Ricks Lookout in Negril, Jamaica. Picture taken by Karen Hodges, my mom, on June 29 th , 2009. Emergent Coastline: An Emergent coastline is caused by the uplift of an area or a drop in sea level. It is characterized by wave-cut cliffs and wave-cut platforms. This image shows an emergent coastline because there are clearly defined wave-cut cliffs. They are tall rocky cliffs, which are eroded by the waves near sea level. Wave Cut-Cliff: A wave cut-cliff is caused by the ocean waves eroding the side of a cliff. This causes the rocky cliff to erode near the bottom and become very steep. The rocky cliffs in this picture are clearly wave-cut because of their steepness and indentation near sea level. Also, this is an emergent coastline, and wave-cut cliffs would be very common here. Photo 2: View from Snowmass Mountain in Aspen Colorado. Taken by Nikki Hodges, Emergent Coastline Wave Cut-Cliff Ridge Valley
