Communication Public Speaking Lecture by Christine Moore Methods of Delivery Conversing with your audience Have a conversation with your audience Gestures, vocal qualities in delivery Speaking with the audience Being natural with your tone and body movements Qualities Effective delivery – skillful application of conversational behavior, in a way that is relaxed, enthusiastic, and direct Appearing natural means you appear relaxed and unrehearsed, be confident and clear (practice) Extemporaneous speaking is conversational, can adapt words to how you deliver them during your speech Method of delivery – extemporaneous Manuscript method Write out all, essay outline Read it verbatim, word for word Professional speakers read from teleprompter Politicians use this, careful with their words- (misquoted-cause problems) Memorized Oratorical style – what you want to say and memorize it Works for short speeches like toasts or special occasions Debates are memorized Problem – might not remember pauses
