02:52 CHAPTER 1 Human development: scientific study of age-related changes in behavior,  thinking, emotion, and personality Important age-related changes occur across lifespan Lifespan Perspective: view that important changes occur throughout the entire  human lifespan and that these changes must be interpreted in terms of the  culture and context in which they occur; thus, interdisciplinary research is critical  to understanding human development Critical Period Limited time in which an event can optimally occur Period in development when an organism is especially sensitive to the  presence (or absence) of some particular kind of experience o Ex: baby ducks will follow anything that moves 15 hrs after hatching Sensitive period An open window of time in which acquisition of a skill is more likely to occur Span of months or years where children may be particularly responsive to
