02:54 CHAPTER 4 Cephalocaudal  – development from head downward (top/down) Ex: Brain develop before reproductive organs Proximaldistal  – development from center of body outward (inward/outward) Ex: Rib cage develops before fingers and toes Once we get a little older, this flips Benefits of breast-feeding: Breast-feeding superior to bottle-feeding Breast milk contributes to more rapid weight and size gain Breastfed infants less likely to suffer from problems such as diarrhea,  gastroenteritis, bronchitis, ear infections…etc. and less likely to die in infancy Breast milk stimulates better immune system function Attachment/bond with mother Breast milk is high in fat, so helps u lose weight after you give birth Habituation: a decline in attention that occurs because a stimulus has become  familiar Dishabituation: responding to a somewhat familiar stimulus as if it were new Ex: when show a baby a picture or object and when the baby stops looking at
