Zaman 1 Quainat Zaman English 220 Section 1 Instructor: L. Stein 6 March 2011 Response Paper #2 Negligent Lou Lou is a father in “Safari” who takes his children, Charlie and Rolph to a three week trip to the arid Africa. Lou can afford such a trip because he is a successful music producer who can attempt to buy his childrens’ love. Jennifer Egan, the author of “Safari”, uses the characterization of Lou’s territorial side to allow the theme of negligence to emerge. Lou, the father of Charlie and Rolph is accompanied on the trip by a Berkley college student, Mindy. Mindy is Lou’s “temporary” (9), girlfriend and Albert, another person on the safari tour hits on Mindy, and indirectly asks her to join him in room three. After Lou’s son, Rolph, mentions this invitation to his father, Lou instantly becomes territorial. Lou responds to his son’s story by simply stating that “women are cunts” (11). The term “cunt”, shows that Lou feels as though Mindy has broken his trust because she has stepped out of his boundary lines.

As a current student on this bumpy collegiate pathway, I stumbled upon Course Hero, where I can find study resources for nearly all my courses, get online help from tutors 24/7, and even share my old projects, papers, and lecture notes with other students.

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
