The first fact of my life currently is I am a 21-year-old Black woman of African descent living in 20th century America. I do not feel like I have fully discovered who Kanini Mwaura is. However, A big part of my character so far is my ability to self motivate. My parents contributed a great deal to my self-motivation. From my early years they never "babied" me, they never did the "baby talk" or attempted to "dumb things down" for my understanding and my extended family followed suit. This made me pretty mature for my age; specifically in my speech, reasoning, and topics of interest. My parents are artists in Kenya. Being an artist in a third world country is extremely challenging as it is a relatively new upcoming industry in the African economy. Watching my parents work and provide for my brother and I inspired me to want the same motivation they possessed. My extended family too is filled with hard-working driven people who all built something from the ground up. We are an extremely close family and have always been actively involved in each other's lives, genuinely and not under the obligation of the title "Family". My Grandfather was born into a very poor family. In high school, he pushed himself to achieve academic excellence in pursuit of a full-ride scholarship to college. Upon successfully enrolling and completing college he went on to become The Kenyan Ambassador in German. He later
