The Welfare Reform Act was put in place to replace the program Aid to Families with Dependent Children (AFDC) with Temporary Assistance for Needy families (TANF). Under the new laws of the Welfare Reform Act there are stricter laws that require some people to have a five year limit on the benefits they can get which would have an impact on people that receive Medicaid . Some people were afraid that this new law would cause people to lose both their welfare and Medicaid coverage. The new guidelines of The Welfare Reform Act forced some states to make changes in order for those who need it to be able to continue to receive Medicaid benefits. The Welfare Reform Act has had some positive effects and some negative effects on people who receive Medicaid .( Welfare Reform and the General Welfare, www.libertynet.com) The Welfare Reform Act has put in place some harsher rules, but the Welfare Reform Act does have some positive effects. One of the positive effects of the Welfare Reform Act is that it achieved the goal of making people more independent financially which would lower the number
