Unformatted text preview: Editorial Manager(tm) for Integrative Psychological and Behavioral Science Manuscript Draft Manuscript Number: IPBS-46R1 Title: Constructivism from a genetic point of view: A critical classification of current tendencies Article Type: Original theoretical contribution Keywords: constructivism; positivism; pragmatism; objectivism; subjectivism Corresponding Author: Dr. Jos Carlos Loredo, Corresponding Author's Institution: UNED First Author: Jos Carlos Snchez Order of Authors: Jos Carlos Snchez; Jos Carlos Loredo Response to reviewer #2 We have followed almost all recommentations made by reviewer #2 when possible (reviewer #2 does not always specify what is wrong about some authors or ideas). We have clarified our intention and strategy, admitting the limitations of a so brief description of the authors but explaining why it could be useful to provide a global ilustration of the dynamics of constructivist conflicts. We have tried to explain that our classification, however it is constructivist, deals also with different conceptions of knowedge construction and different conceptions or reality (constructed or not). Thus our classification concerns both the epistemological and ontological sides that Reviewer #2 ask us to distinguish. We have explained our mention to Platos irrational soul and have pointend that Kants concept of knowledge construction is not subjectivist -in our terminology- because Kants concept of subject is a step towards constructivism and against what we have called subjectivism. Also we have included some new quotes and references as required, and cheked the APA style for all the references. Last, the paper has been reviewed -as it was in previously stages- by a native english speaker (north american). We think that Reviewer #2 has made an important suggestion concerning Ernst Mach. In our view he is completely right and has pointed out a real and very interesting situation: the point where a positivistic tradition (supposed to be realist, objectivist) looks for a psychological foundation of "the facts" as in Mach sensationalism. Reviewer #2 suggests we should change the title to say something like "is a classification of constructivisms possible?". We actually offer a classification of constructivisms based on a theoretical perspective: a well known genetic perspective, although currently forgotten to some extent. Be it good or not, it is a classification, not a desire.
