In addition, I have not given aid to another student on this assignment. ___________________________________________ Abstract Describing the investigation and identification of the phosphate content in three brands of cola, this report contains the methods and procedures used during the processes of investigating the colas. The relative phosphate concentrations of three colas were obtained using various relationships between transmittance, absorbance, concentration, and wavelength, as well as several other experiments and the use of various techniques involving the spectrophotometer. Based on the data obtained from the experiments involving colored solutions, phosphate solutions, and cola solutions, we were able to conclude that Coca Cola had the greatest phosphate content of the three colas tested. The first goal of this project was to determine relationships between wavelength absorbed and the color of the compound being tested. Wavelength is the measurement between units of a wave of a given frequency, meaning wavelength equals wave speed divided by frequency. The wavelength tests were performed by testing colored water in a Spectronic20.
