Marko Urlic Business & Society 09 -07 -2010 Essay #3 John D. Rockefeller Senior is one of the most famous industrialists to date. His fame is well deserved, through decades of hard work that brought prosperity to the American petroleum industry. He has been called with all bad names, because people did not like the way he was doing his business, even he did it morally, but not business morally. It means that doing what he was doing did not break any laws, but it just did not seem right for the other business around him. He had a huge impact and influence on other industries. He took over and he was dominating with the oil industry. Also, he made a deal with railroad companies about transportation of his oil to earn more money, and by that his company, Standard Oil, was getting more customers, which means less customers for his “enemies”, the other companies. Standard Oil was getting bigger and bigger, and the small companies did not have a lot of choice, they had to sell their business to him, or go into bankruptcy; there was no third option. They could
