Tips for taking and studying for Chemistry 2 Exams Do the suggested homework. Use the example in your text as practice problems. Review the lecture notes and re-work the example problems. Not only is it good review, but instructor’s often put homework, lecture, and text questions on exams. The questions are often similar and sometimes exactly the same. Do all homework, examples, and problems first without looking at the answers. The more types of problems you do, the less surprised you will be on the exam because you will likely have seen every type of question. Go to all lectures. You don’t want to miss a question that was directly discussed in lecture. Review your notes within a few hours of lecture. Studies show that your retention will greatly increase. Go to office hours. Definitely go to your instructor’s office hours. It helps to hear things explained multiple times. You never know when your instructor will give a hint to an exam. Also, go to your favorite TA’s office hours.
