Chapter Six Case If I were a union organizer I would first familiarize myself with the National Labor Relations Act (NLRA) which states that employees have the right to organize and bargain collectively and that it is unlawful for an employer to interfere with those rights (National Labor Relations Act, 2009). It is important to be familiar with labor organizing rights and boundaries before getting started. I would then review some of the major union’s websites to see how they suggest I get started organizing at GMFC-CCD. The Communications Workers of America (CWA) suggests that to get started is to begin talking with workers and determining whether or not they share the same concerns as Dave (How to Organize a Union Where You Work, 2005). I know that the preppers are dissatisfied, but I need to find out how the welders, fabricators, painters, and assemblers feel. I could probably begin slowly by having some Dave and some other employees wonder around the facility and start conversations with some of the laborers from each area to get a general idea. If it seems that more than a few employees share dissatisfaction, then I could hold meetings after work to discuss a course of action. I would also want workers to research the salary and benefits of similar firms and compare those to ones currently offered at GMFC-CCD and get a copy of
