III. Findings on Family Functioning a. Roller Coaster Pattern i. 42/82 displayed this pattern ii. Characterized by decline and recovery b. Increased Model i. 15/82 ii. Increase in the quality of family functioning while under stress. iii. Ups and downs but no initial start decline c. No Change Model i. 12/82 ii. Functioning remained essentially unchanged. d. Decreased Model i. 4/82 ii. Decrease in family functioning not followed by recovery e. Mixed Model i. 9/82 ii. Some experienced a period of increase followed by decline, ending with recovery f. Conclusions about the 5 Models i. Families vary in the way that they manage stress. ii. Roller coaster is found about half of the time.
