Nilam Shah Chemistry 121 Lab Report # 3 Limiting Reactant Lab K. Wernert Limiting Reactant Lab Report Purpose :   The Purpose of this experiment is to determine percentage composition of zinc sulphate and sodium phosphate in a mixture by performing a limiting reactant stoichiometri experiment. Procedure Obtain an unknown salt mixture and then weigh it on a weighing paper between 1.9 gm to 2.1 gm. Add the given mixture and 200ml of distilled H 2 O in a 400ml beaker. Test the pH of the solution with pH paper. The pH level should show anywhere from 5 to 6. If necessary, add required amount of 6M HNO 3 . Stir the mixture for about one minute and allow the precipitate to settle. Boil the solution for 15-20 minutes. Pour off two 10ml volumes of the solutions into two separate, clean beakers and label them I and II. Place the filter paper in a Buchner funnel. Transfer the precipitate. Remove any precipitate on the beakers wall using rubber policeman and deionized water. The precipitate should be deposited on the filter paper on the Buchner funnel,
